Salou...

Hi guys just back from sunny Salou :( .
Every night on the main beach area there were 50 plus anglers spread out for miles (had nice pictures but had to delete them, apparently you can't get enough pictures of the kids by the pool,go figure :? ).
Most guys (even the more serious guys)were using 3-4 rods, mostly telescopic 12-14 ft. 3-6oz. (none of these fantastic slimline continental rods that the magazines back here keep telling us is the way to go :? )
Traces seemed to be basic enough, light line and small hooks ,weights etc.
Baits varied from each guy, squid, fresh water baits or anything they could get there hands on seemed to be the order of the day.
Now all this sounds like there has to be fish around to be caught, but for the 2 weeks i was there i only saw maybe 4 fish caught (don't know what they were :? )and to be honest i've used sandeel that have been bigger then anything that i saw.
Can anybody enlighten me as to what they are looking to catch (there were local guys who you could see took it serious as well as the tourists)the tourists didn't know what they were fishing for,and i left the more serious guys alone (didn't want to ask them "are the mackerel in" )
Have to say if i was to blank this would be my prefered choice as the beach was fantasic :D
