Hi Martin there is one in Peurto del Carmen in (old town) at the bottom of "Cardiac Hill". If you are walking down from the shopping centre on the way to old town, the first road on your right is where the shop is located, you will know your on the right street if there are 2 drinklinks on the left hand side of the upward road. The shop is only yards from them uphill.
They don't have a lot of gear mostly Telescopic rods and cheap reels with names i have never heard off but they do sell local bait.
I have heard of another shop down by the Harbour in old Town but i have never found it.
There is a pub/Restaurant in New town called Spinnaker's (they have a web site) It is owned by a Donegal man who was a Commercial Fisherman. he should be able to give you some advice on what nd where 2 get it.

P.S. If you want somewhere nice to eat, try La Cascada or El Tomato both situated in old town less than 100mtrs from the tackle shop.

F**k you any way I'm going to start looking for cheap flights now.

Cheers Danny

I know of the tackle shop that Danny is talking about in the Old Town. However, I just came across a place in the new town which stocks a good range of tackle. Mostly Daiwa & Grauvell. The shop is called 'Bazar Souvenir' and is located opposite the Mini Golf on the main stretch. Their fishing tackle section is to the back of the shop and then to the left. Stock all you'll need for shore fishing out in Lanza!

Hi

For most species, parrot fish excluded, all you need is a bag of frozen prawns - dirt cheap and lasts you all day. I found that a 3/0 hook is perfect sized, but you will need to whip it on with elastic as most of the bream and facio would put our own wrasse to shame as bait robbing! Fished on the bottom it can account for everything from moray eels to butterfly rays (big!) provided your terminal tackle is up to the job. Most of the locals use heavy duty wire. Ground baiting with tiny bits of prawn generates lots of bait fish shoals late of an evening and these in turn, with patience, can bring in the predators, so a spinning rod and some yellow/white/silver tassie devils (on wire) gives you a shot at barracuda, leerfish, and a few other toothy critters... For the parrotfish you need crab, small ones, you find them packed into jars...

Bait & Tackle Lanzarote

Just back from a week's holidays in Lanzarote, with the wife and kids. Managed to get a few hour's fishing in. I had brought out tasmanian devils, a few plugs, and some toby's. Bought a Daiwa telescopic rod & reel out there for €12:

Session 1: Puerto del Carmen - on the rocks just north of Playa Grande. Left the gang on the main beach and headed to a spot where a few others were fishing. Fished here between 4.30 & 6pm - upto HT. All were float fishing, so I set up a similar rig with bread. Got no bites but none of the others were catching either. Decided to spin instead. Went through my full range starting with the tazzie's. Using a silver toby I had a few 'what looked like blue fish' follow. A few casts later I had the culprit! A garfish - and a nice one at that. Upto HT I hooked a further four fish but only managed to land one more. None of the others had any fish until HT when they all started to catch small wrasse like fish one after the other.

Session 2: Took out a paddle boat with the kids from the main beach. You're only allowed a hour on these and have to keep within a line of yellow buoys. However, these were out far enough and I noticed the drop off was well within these. This time I took only a 20g silver toby with me. Had plenty of takes and lost fish. Only managed to land two. This time the fish were greater weaver fish (I think).

Session 3: Went beyond the Fariones. Started fishing in front of a public car park in what looked like an absolute perfect spot to fish. However, had to pack up as it quickly became apparent that this is where all the dive schools bring their pupils. Pity. Maybe in the evenings this might be worth a try.

Next time I'll be better prepared but for anyone who wants the minimum of fuss and just wants a couple of hours away bring silver toby's with you!

I was in Praia da Rocha, Algarve last year and I noticed all the locals catching the same kind of fish from the breakwater. Thanks for that info all the same Steve.
