Anyone know much about this place..? Going there in 4 weeks time. Boat fishing looks class - plenty of sailfish, tuna, baracuda etc but I will have the telescopic and a selection of lures as hotel is on the beach.

Anyone fished it before..?

Hi Eoghan,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you are going to MELT.

Dubai is madness at this time of the year with day time Temps of about 44C and 100% humidity most of the time. Night time temps are about 28 - 32C and the humidity doesn't drop much. Because of this water temps are very high, so there is not much knocking around the shore line. I don't think that the hotel will let you fish the beach. Around some of the bridges there might be a bit of spinning for Barracuda, but they have started to enforce their licence policy of late in these areas as there were quite a few people fishing and I don't think they likes the "look" of it... Anyway, the result is that now you have to get a licence to fish anyway near these bridges or the city in general and it takes about a month or two to get one.

Deep sea fishing might be worth a bash and the Dorado (Mahi Mahi) might still be knocking around. There is a couple of decent sailfish charters running out of Dubai, but I'm not sure what the fishing is like in June. I though August was the time for them.

I think all your fishing will be done in the Bar.

The good news is that if you can find a tackle shop you should be able to stock up on yo-zuri's for about €4 a pop.

Sorry about the the info,

Kev

Anyone have any info on Ice fishing in Norway...??? :-)

Holy crap.....thats hot.
I know the boat fishing season is best from Sept to April but I had planned to do a bit during the day. Looks like I will spend most of my time in the pool or the sea. Unless I can sneak a dawn session in.
That sounds like savage heat though....!

I would have thought with the warm water that the inshore fishing would be good..? Guess not..! :-(

We are staying 40 mins from the city in a large hotel complex that has its own marina etc and looked ideal.

Thanks for the Info Mac, better to be warned than not..!

I don't want to put you off.... You'll have a great time and Dubai, is an awe inspiring place to visit. Bear in mind that quite a bit of the city is still under construction, but the buildings that have been completed are fantastic.

It is hot though, so hot most of the locals go on holiday at the time your visiting to get away from the place.

42C is managable, you get it a lot in Africa, but with the 100% humidity, it is simply unreal. Your first few breaths of air when you get out of the airport will shock you. You can feel the hot air enter your lungs. You get used to it quickly though.

The inshore fishing can be brilliant from October to March / Maybe april. They have lots and lots of species for lure fishing or bait... As soon as the water gets too hot they all head off to deeper cooler water. None of the boats bother targeting these species. They tend to go for the sport fish 100%, that way they can charge you the big bucks for a day out.

It's amazing how warm the sea water gets. Depending on where you are along the cost, it can actually feel like your swimming in Soup...... I normally stick to the pool. The pools over there are cooled rather than heated

Stick to the bar and pool and try keep the missus away from the shopping malls...... The shopping there is very good.....

If you are buying any of the more expensive items, Gold, jewlery, watches and that sort of thing, haggle like a mad man..... and try play one shop off another. Your not getting a good deal, if he passes the goods to you with a smile on this face.

Enjoy,

Kev

Hi lads
Headin to Dubai in 2 weeks time for a fortnight. Is there any tackle bargins to be had among all the shopping. Would love to get some fishing done over there but 'her indoors' may have other ideas.

There are a few bargins to be had alright.... You just have to find the fishing tackle stores, which tend to be small and a bit out of the way (In Abu Dhabi anyway) Boat and spinning reels are plenty.... Last time I was over there The Yo-Zuri lures were about €4......didn't buy any  I'll bring a suitcase for them next time.....

BTW Eoghan,
Did you have a good time....did you melt :?:
