Fishing in Barcelona..?

The other half is bringing me to Barcelona for the weekend. Fly out tomorrow. Just wondering has anyone ever fished there or have any information about it..?

Would it be worth packing the telescopic and a few sub surface plugs..?

Was there in Feb for a cpl days - don't know about other species but there were some big mullet cruising about with shoals of smaller fish in the harbour down by the aquarium

I'd say so Eoghan. As far as I'm aware of there's a lot of fishing going on in the Catalonian coast, including spinning/pluggin/jiggin. I've read reports of bass and bigger predators (careful with their jaws and teeth!) being taken on lures. Bring surface plugs too. WTD pencils (super spooks, sammys) are meant to be deadly with flat seas, which you might actually find down there. Haven't got a clue on marks though, sorry!

i was over there in november and there were loads of mullet and bream in the harbour. i didnt see anyone fish but id say they would fall to bread on a float.

id say if you could break into the aqurium at nite you would have some sport they have a tank filled with tiger sharks you could use your othere half for bait :lol: only messin

I got thrown off the harbour by the police for fishing :oops:

Full of mullet & different bream species, I got them on bread & small squid that I bought from one of the restaurants.
There is no fishing allowed in the port but I did notice people fishing off the rocks where the mouth of the harbour meets the sea.

Its a great spot, well worth bringing the rod but resist the temptation to fish in the harbour.
The policeman even made me throw in all of my lovely bait :evil:

Further along from the harbour/aquarium to the north there are several rocky outcrops that i've seen many people fish from - especially the northern end of the main beach.

you could take a day trip down to the mouth of the ebro, fantastic wetlands and salt marshes down there to keep the woman happy and you could spin for bass and maybe tyams (local name, not sure what they really are some kind of snapper i think)

futher up the river you could catch black bass and zander too.

other than that you could bring some irish bass style lures and spin the rocks around the harbour as said above. might throw up some bass

i know that your suffering from the effects of the bass ban but i think that going to spain for a session is a bit much :twisted: :twisted:

Jeez lads sounds well worth the effort of bringing the rod. Gotta be worth packing a few small plugs etc just in case. I have heard about that aquarium too, she has been warned I may have to be kicked out at closing time...!!! :D

Just remembered, we got the train to Sitges down the coast (about 40 mins), the train line runs along the coast and it looks like great great rocky bass country. Nice beach in Sitges with plenty of rocky marks close by...

I'd personally go north towards the province of Girona. Wilder, less packed and much nicer coastline. Dali's home/museum is over there too...

Last time I was there I noticed a few guys fishing off the breakwaters that jutt out into the sea all along the beach area..... I sa what seemed to be a nice Guilt Head Sea Bream caught. The fish was caught on a simple ledger rig with Prawn for bait.

Looks like the kind of spot where you could have a few casts without having to travel too far and bring too much equipment.

Um, did I miss something?? :? Seemed pretty dead when we were there... I know it was February, but it didn't look like it could get much livelier :?

Sorry, I should've explained. Sitges is a very popular gay destination. Or so I've heard. But I suppose it happens more in the summer months... :wink:
