http://www.fishfight.net/this is a campaign to stop the discard of fish in the north sea
however they dont tell us what they propose to do instead - too much money is being made buying and selling quotas (on an open market) which drives this waste - that will be harder to change
still at least it highlights the waste

Its a campaign headed by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall of River Cottage fame to bring to the attention of the masses the amount of fish that is discarded over the side by trawlermen.
This is the hopeful reply by one R/Cottage forum member in what they are hoping to achieve
"The important part (and where HFW comes in) is making the EU and our MEPs decide that this is a priority over other matters. Without public pressure things like this get caught up for years and years in the massive unpoliced beuracracy of the EU. But ultimately (and yes, it is a long slow process) policy makers are accountable and public pressure will bear on them - they do listen if we shout loud enough."
best of luck to em

Good to see someone speaking up against this. Seen a trawler in clogherhead this time last year dump a disgusting amount of fish overboard in the harbour. Many people walking past asking me why, maybe thought I knew more as I was fishing off the harbour. I just told the
They were unwanted. It was terrible to see. The seals didn't object though! Must check that forum out and sign up.
