Beach vandalism on Clone Strand

Please can members supply relevant information by PM on the moving of beach material on Clone Strand within the past week by firstly private contractors and I believe secondly by sub contractors employed by Wexford County Council. The estuarine lake habitat at the mouth of the Kilgorman stream has been removed by track machines and bulldozers and now the Kilgorman River flows straight out into the sea.

I believe that all work was done without consultation with relevant bodies such as the ERFB, please confirm on this point.

The Kilgorman River gets a run of sea trout and the estuarine lake was a habitat for amongst many species juvenile flatfish. It is no coincidence that the best flounder and dab fishing on Clone Strand is between the Kilgorman River and the stream that crosses the beach to the south at Kilgorman gap. A neighbour of mine, now in her seventies, spoke of catching flatfish in this lake as a teenager, which shows the permanence of the feature and the seemingly total disregard shown by whoever ordered this work to be carried out.

Beach rules prohibit the moving of beach material so all parties would appear to be at fault. The estuarine lake feature in its own time will return as nature does its work, however an act of extreme vandalism has occured here and it would appear has been exarcerbated using taxpayers money. It is important on the basis that an action like this does not happen again here or anywhere else that the truth is established.

having been reared on clone strand and after having a place down there for the past 40 yrs i think i can answer this ashley.
this is done every year at this time its to allow lands all along the river to drain off when the river flows the lenght of the beach it progress is slow, so the local farmers dig a new outlet. the river if left in the original route blocks off all of the beach during the summer and becomes smelly and people cant go near it .if its left to run the lenght of the beach the lands all along the river bank remains under water and marshy as your friend said this river was very rich with fish. flats, brown trout, salmon and white trout. that was untill a massive fish kill in the late seventies i personally helped local people clean the beach after this we filled over 200 net nitrate bags with huge salmon trout and flats. the flats used the river to spawn. after this all along that stretch of coast the flatfish population was gone also the seatrout were very scarce and i cant remember the last time i seen a salmon leap out in the sea which was a regular accurance.it took about 2 weeks for all the dead fish to be removed .it wiped out the whole lot including all of the eels.the culpit was the local creamery they were fined 500 pounds for this. yes a joke its only in the last 3 yrs that iv noticed small flats back in the river and iv seen afew trout jumping at the mouth. hopfully its a sign that its making a recovery

(Edited my original post after contact from the OP.)

Given Twinkles explaination it would seem to be a "normal" practice.
