Bass closed season ????

Guys and Gals can i give you a suggestion

Could all members of this site give Bass a chance and give them a break for the next 2 months ???

Just think about it guys .... how many of the latest posts have said about the Bass that they caught flowing with S***M.

Come on lads we want. and need a future for our kids

extending the closed season would help as it is not an accurate breeding season countrywide for the ban as it is now! more like 3 months!
i don't catch bass much but release 99% of everything i do catch anyway!

You're probably right Danny, as the bass seem to spawn from March onwards, but for it to be truly implemented it would need to be enacted as an amendment to the current legislation. More people would abide by the spirit of it then. Probably a lobbying task for Irishbass.org.

no problem at all RR, doesn't take a lot for me to agree to your pledge, I've never caught a single bass in the 43 years I'm into fishing    and I doubt that I will in the foreseeable future    as matters stand.

i disagree, bass are not as scarce as they are made out to be, i think the closed season of 1 month is pefectly adequite, perhaps the bag limit should be reduced to one per angler per day. but a blanket ban of three month seems rediculous. c and r enthusiasts really annoy me, at this point in time sea angling ireland has its own inquisition where any one who kills a fish, is being slated as a blood thirsty murderer. at the end of the day angling's roots derive from a sport to catch fish for consumption, its blood sport.
i catch quite a few bass, and as i said there is no shortage of them, a lot of novice anglers fish thre wrong marks, using the wrong techniques during the wrong times. then get the idea that bass are an elusive, cunning, rare silver ghost of the ocean. catch and release seems to be a case of 'cant catch so il release what i do'...i quite like the taste of bass

Anyone who is concerned for the future of our sport could not dissagree with this.
You can still catch the fish ..have your sport ..and know you are doing your bit for the future ..great idea!
Well done!

By the way, if there are lots of fish in any year, this does not mean lots of bass for the future.
A poor spawning season in one or two years running can be disastrous in four to five years time.........due to the long slow growing nature of european sea bass, and there slow growth to maturity.
Have a look here.....well worth reading all info on the site.

i think anyone who fishes and catches a fish has the right to eat it if they wish ,c&r in course fishing has been discribed as cruel by animal protection groups and they find sea angling a more acceptable sport as most fish are dispatched quickly for the table
i have nothing against c&r and do practice it myself ,but also keep some for the pot ,ramming c&r down peoples necks all the time only pXXes them off ,if you think killing fish is so bad give up fishing cos every fish you release wont survive  how can you sleep

totally agree with both of you,i love fishing but i love eating them too, :D I let most of what i catch back to live another day, but if i get a nice edible species it goes in the bag for the table! I have noticed that if there is a post saying that a cod(a endangered species) has been brought home for the table there is general congratulations, but god love anyone saying that they brought home a bass!! Now i dont condone wholesale slaughter, but the odd fish for the table is a lovely bonus after a nice day on the water!
