the plan is not working well for the team so far, unfortunately the weather has prevented them practicing.Without much practice they may be going into the competition blind.
They are using all their tactics to gain as much info as they can from the shore line
will keep the site up to speed on their progress
best of luck lads

Nice one mick and all the best to the lads.

they got out today and the official practice day is tommorrow with the comp starting on tuesday.
with the few hours practice they got today they were able to get a good insight to the tactics they need to use and different rigs during the day.
the fishing is manly uptiding and the tide can run between 5 to 6 knots so as the tide picks up the need to go to more streamline rigs but as it slackens off they can use all the attractors necessary, they are fishing for cod, pouting and a variety of flats,
they are using a new style of rod its basically an uptider with the top 9 inches cut off and a quiver tip style top which give's you back bone and sensitivity, they are very happy with this system and using fixed spools.
will put up more as i hear from them

first day in to the comp and the lads are doing very well with 2 firsts a second and 2 fifths which holds them in 5th place at the moment with not much between themselves and the other top four, the english team the reiging champions are in eight at the moment.
they are full of confidence and fishing well although there is some conspircy theory's that the boats without the belguim team members are being taken away from the fishing grounds, with some anglers coming in with only one or two fish whereas the boats with the belguim team members are coming in with a lot heavier bags, this makes all the difference as the comp is scored on weight, its an issue that is going to be sorted tonight at the captains meeting.
bring on fair angling

fishing was a little harder today, the rewards were not good with some irish anglers having the most counters on the boat but being knocked back because the comp is done on weight results today
3,4,4,4,5
to be comfirmed but i think it knocked them back to 8th place
on both days so far our lads have came up against rui gomes who was last years winner in portugal, on both occasions the irsh lads finished ahead of him on the boat
last day tomorrow
best wishes

thanks for keeping us up to date mate, keep the news coming
Thu Oct 04, 2007 6:00 pm
today was the final day with our lads getting possibly (to be confirmed at the weigh in) 2 boat wins, a second a third and a fourth.
on judging up the points it maybe good enough to put the team in to sixth overall, which is very respectable,
the presentation is tomorrow night so the official results wont be out until then.
on speaking to the lads they said the team spirit they had was unbelievable, normally as anglers they are competing as individuals holding on to secret tactics and rigs, but while they were away they were all coaching and critiquing each other trying to maximize the team effort.
well done lads
i will post up the final team placing as soon as it is confirmed

the final results are in, at the weigh in yesterday there was only a few grams in the difference with the anglers unfortunately not in favor of the Irish anglers and this knocked them back a lot the team finished in 10th place with 3 of the lads individually finishing in the early twenty's, one 20th, 22nd & 23rd overall.
a great effort all round and a lot of experience gained as it was a style of fishing that we are not used to using in Ireland,
next years event is very similar to this years, so with all the knowledge gained this year the lads can only go further with 2 of the lads on this years team fishing next year,
well done lads

mickeyfish
PS bring home some Belgium chocolates for me

good result form the lads, pity about the way the final shake up knocked them a few places especially since there was only a few grams in it.
any ideas who won

Spain won, England second, I think Italy were 3rd..
