RockHunter wrote:Looks like Cork Harbour will be fairly devoid of mullet next year and if Robs 10% estimate for Bass in amongst that is anyway near correct there wont be too many Bass left either. If you apply the same calculation for Bass that would be about 11,600 Bass!!!!
I will not be expecting to catch any Bass in East Cork next year.![]()

Unfortunately there is no law against netting mullet.
They only break the law if they retain the Bass, if thousands of dead Bass are discarded then they are abiding by the law.
And they probably sleep well too !!!!!

1/the most of the fish were sent to France !
2 / they were caught where normally there is herring
3/ do ye honestly think that we would shot back a second time on something we caught by accident !
It's a freak tow
Apparently in two hauls my eye???
It's on AIS for all to see that we had one tow
And Jim clohessy it's no problem to call me and find out the FACTS before spreading bullshit propaganda we have enough problems with bad press .
The most of the fish went for human consumption !
We landed in bins with SFPOs .
We are not happy about this and would have avoided it had we known it was mullet !
THESE ARE THE FACTS !
we manage our Celtic sea herring fishery ourselves and have the healthiest stock in Europe , it's MSC accredited and have a closed area north of 52 degrees with only the smaller vessels have access!
We are here for the long haul and conservation is a must for all !
Regarding the mullet all I can say it was a mistake!
How many times is a bass hooked in the closed season to anglers ?

The
Couple bass we picked out of them We had for out tea tonight they made a nice change from herring !
By our bizarre irish law I'm not allowed even to have them aboard , but they are a nice feed .
I do t see why we should dump them when a friend or two should benefit !
Look the law is the law I don't agree but that's the way !
Our herring season on the south coast is 6 weeks ,
If ye want a proper campaign lobby against the Dutch super trawlers that work on our west coast ALL year long ,(high grading) the destruction that is happening here is sinful!
That's where the damage is done not here in six weeks ! Hands up about the mullet !
It no different to digging for a carrot and getting a parsnip the top looks just the same !
