Crazy Shark Action Sardine Run 2020

Postby GKC0806 » Thu Jun 25, 2020 9:10 am

Hi folks,
I know this does not relate to local Ireland angling, but just thought worthwhile sharing for those who may have an interest in seeing some detail regarding the annual phenomenon that occurs on the Natal south coast during June/July in South Africa, where millions of sardines shoal ("the greatest shoal on earth") and travel up the coast and frequently get driven onto the beach by schools of dolphins and porpoises and shoals of immense sharks - which in turn then provides shore anglers with the opportunity to catch PB tackle testing monsters - some numbers ranging from 250-350kgs - Dusky, Grey, Bronze Whaler sharks etc.
Some may find it interesting to see the significant use of fixed spool grinder reels - Penn, Shimano, Daiwa etc - all these new modern grinders really proving their line capacity, drag and pulling power.
There is also some nice footage from Drones, where increasingly the drones are being used to fly out baits when the sardines and sharks are still out past the backline and beyond casting distance.

See below just two youtube videos with some great footage:

Hello GC,

Thanks for posting. Wow - that's some fishing and some serious fish! They're f***in huge! I'd say a lad could lose a leg tailing or releasing one of those sharks!

Thanks,
Pat
