Hey guys...
I was just wondering how often you would change the line on your reels?? I haven't been out at all over the winter because I just don't have the gear to keep warm!..but now as it hopefully begins to get a bit more bearable, I'll be getting out and ill put all new line on the reels because theyve not been touched in a few months and the chances are they have deteriorated somewhat, but when should I change or how long would it last??...
I'm guessing it would depend on the type and quality of line but I don't use really expensive stuff, just average priced mono on fixed spool reel...
Cheers
Mack

when your at home strip the line off your reel and feel for abrasion or kinks - anything at all, get rid of it
you dont want to lose your dream fish
or in other terms if you loose a few rigs/leads due to deteriorated line then its the same price as new line
once a season change it at least and more if your rough ground fishing
also if scratching infront a lot - the line gets scuffs from the waves and sand/pebbles and makes it easier to see by the fishies...

this is defo one advantage of using a multi reel over a fixed spool ! as you gently caress the line onto the spool with your thumb you will feel any rough areas if your line is worn !

I change the line on my reels after every 4 to 5 sessions. Two years ago myself and Eric were fishing for hounds for the galway aquarium two lads drove from Galway to meet us in Wexford and the only two hounds hooked that day were lost from the main line snapping when setting the hooks

I was never so flucking embarrassed. Better safe than sorry
