A bit early yet.
I usually wait until about the October weekend.
We need a bit of a frost to drop the water temperature first.

A few pointers:
The wall is tidal and needs to be fished on slack tides.

On the bigger tides the best you’ll get will be about 1 hour before and 2 hours after low water
You will still be able to fish away but the catch rate drops.

The weather (rain) plays a big part in fishing the dropping tides. If the river is in flood then no weight will hold bottom as you have to compete with the ebb plus the fresh water that has been held back by the flooding tide

Crab is the best bait by a mile
A good distance cast will get the bigger fish

Pin in these dates for starters weather permitting
November 3rd. Sat HW 07:30, LW 13:54
November 4th. Sun HW 08:07 LW 14:33
Fish the late drop and 3 hours of the flood the hit Youghal Beach for darkness. Head home the East Coast

If anything turns up sooner I’ll post a report

A quick update from de wall.
After servicing my reels and putting on new line I headed to Monkstown with a few crab and some manky mackerel and razor.
Not a sigh of a cod nothing but pin whiting after pin whiting and 1 mackerel.

Not looking good at the moment even the East Cork beaches aren’t showing any cod. :( :(

I’ll just have to go back catching Bass

Updated:
A total waste of time at the moment.
I fished Sat 27th. and Mon 29th. both on the start of the flood with fresh crab and lug, nothing but pin size cod and whiting.
Stil no reports on any cod showing up on the beaches :( :o  :? doom and gloom

No sign of a cod run in Youghal yet. I fished FerryPoint at the weekend - just one small codling weighing a little over a pound. A few other anglers there were not having much success either, couple of guys had a few tiny ones before I arrived.

Fished De Wall for four hours or so on the low and all small fish both pin whiting and small codling fell to lug and the crab produced more crab and starfish . It was very mild and it was the same story with everyone there all small fish.
