Me and a mate are on a fishing holiday for a week end of August, staying in the Caherdaniel/Castlecove area.
We have trawled a lot of sites, for info, but was wondering what is being caught in the area now, and what are we likely to be trying to catch when we are over there? Best baits? Local tackle shops? Bait suppliers?
Also we are planning to take a boat trip whilst there, so anyone know of a good boat and skipper in the area please?

If you want to fish the area properly try KB fishing for info and baits. If you want shorefishing I recommend the Valentia lighthouse for big wrasse and pollack from the rocks using frozen lug and limpet or mussels. Also try floatfishing from the rocks at Westcove camping site,or try the end of Lambs head for the same, wrasse and pollaksk. The bigger wrasse and pollack are not from these marks, but from Valentia,Kells,Bolus head,Hogs head and so on.
If you want boatfishing you can try Jack O'shea from Sneem(Rossdohan) and catch loads of fish like pollack ,small coalies, bull huss, ray and plenty mackerel, also in Caherdaniel is boatfishing available, but I don't know this skipper.Portmagee,Knightstowns and Cahirsiveen are ports you can fish from if you can boor aboard a oparty and share the cost.Interesting for adventurers is the option Kevin Brain offers from Waterville or other marks is KAJAK FISHING.Ask him, email the guy, phone him,he will get you worthwhile info. There is a tackle sop in Sneem,a small one in Kenmare, but again KB fishing in waterville will satisfy.nothing fancy but just right.
In august you can try for blue shark,if you like to drift all day.If the wheather is right succes is almost included,I for one ,like to fish the bottom while drifting,or fish for big garfish in the rubby dubby trail.

Hi used to spend summers down around there when i was young you are close to a couple of deep water marks around castlecove I'll send a pm.
Also try lambs head near Caherdaniel there seems to be a fair amount of rocky outcrops there but the road down was very rough the last time I was there.
You coul fish off the beach in derrynane
and there is a small slip on the exit to derrynane harbour that looks like it should produce
