looking for advice on a spinning rod and reel

#1 Post by Sparkie »

As the title says. I'm looking for a decent rod and reel for spinning. Looking for advice on whats good and what will last.

I want it for spinning off the rocks for pollick and the other fish, and for plugging for bass. Would prob's be using it for light tackle wrasse fishing. Any advice is welcome

Depends on budget, but as suggested get the best you can afford as it will make your fishing experiences more pleasurable and will stand the test of time and dont be afraid to buy good quality 2nd hand gear rather than cheaper new tackle.

I got a 2nd hand Shimano Stella 2500 from Japan off ebay.com, cost me €200 delivered - some reel I can tell you, never held a reel that felt so smooth and solid.

Rodwise, thats open to even more debate, a lot of lads are now going for short rods 7/8 ft, but if you doing a bit of pollock fishing of rocks, and needing to guide fish away from snags etc, maybe 9ft might suit better - all a matter of personal taste really but if your looking for a "jack of all trades" lure rod 9-10ft might be best.

I think I will just go for sumthing a little cheaper. I'm looking to spend no more than 200 euro on rod and reel. Surely there must be some decent rods and reels for that price that people know about.
