It's called Water sharing

Not sure if I have already mentioned this on the forum [it's my age]

Fishing from Roonagh Pier last summer with a few other anglers both young and old, when 3 vehicles pull up right to the end of the pier. Several wet suit clad individuals get out and proceed to climb onto the wave wall and run and jump in. Needless to say this went on for a fair old while and ruined the fishing for all the anglers.

Anyone else had similar problems?

How can it be dealt with?

Would the Garda get involved? The Louisburgh Garda station is usually unmanned after 5pm, so it would mean them coming from Westport if at all.

hmmm

i come to think of a thing that happened here in Sweden.

A friend of mine was fishing in northern skåne (kullen) and the guy next to him hooked something that seemed huge... is was heavy and did fight back pretty good until it relaxed.

On the hook was a scuubadiver from Germany (tourist not invader  )
The diver wasn't very happy about being hooked and dragged to shore but all the people that was fishing had a good laugh about it and recommended the large priest for the ugly fish.

So my tip is... BIG treble-hooks and large priests, C&K CATCH AND KILL

PS. keep the meat, they say its like chicken

On a serious note, I'm not 100% on this but in some places I've been where both fishing and swimming are popular there are signs telling the Angler that he MUST give way to people fishing. Like I said I'mot 100% on the law regarding such signs maybe it' just a county council request but I have seen the signs.

from what i've experienced over the years i can only say 'the angler is always wrong'. it sickens me, makes me angry and bitter and it dosen't make any sense!?!?!?! pick your venue wisely in summer. fish early or late. if you know people will probably be around annoying you(!) then use a mobile approach. no piont having to rods on a tripod and all the gear around you. people don't care. if your hook snares one when they're swimmen, whose going to win the court case? also, be wary of dogs!! they love mackeral tipped rag baits!!

Local Beach, Say about a Good Mile or Longer, About a Month ago we had a Jetski CONSTANTLY within 100 M of where we were fishing, If I had a Sinper Rifle Handy it would have been nice.

Spot on Kiwijbob. :D trying to post during a coffee break and read all the back posts had me all over the place. The jetski guys are insane.... that's probably why they are being banned in estuarys all over the country.

I have often been moved off a mark by people swimming. To be truthful it bothers me a little especially if I'm in the middle of a session and a move is not possible. I think it comes with fishing the more popular beaches. There are always a few that will have very little people on them, especially on the west coast. :D

Sadly when conditions are perfect on Inch for bass it is also perfect for surfers but I have fished there (a good way up the beach)when familys have walked by.The dad stops t ask the usual bout of questions what fish, how far what bait etc while the kids start jumping and swimming in the water righth in front of me.I even had one pulling the line 30 yards out while mum and dad looked on.What could you say?As for the surfers                  Absolutly no respect for anyone else.

although it will probably make me public enemy number 1,i have to disagree with some of the posts.fair enough about the jetskis but you cant give about about swimmers intruding on YOUR space.its hypocritical.they could say the same thing about you and divers and surfers alike.you are going to get selfish people in every walk of life but you cant give out about all of them.like the title says, water Sharing!

is that not a bit crude poacher?! i agree with steve l though, while tossers on jet skis deserve to have their heads kicked in for merely existing, people swimming, even those sissies in wetsuits who just jump off piers all day long should be left alone. just grin and bear it. plan ahead, surely there has to be a rock mark or quiet corner of the beach where you can tuck yourself in away from the rest of the world.
there should be some kind of by law passed on jet skis though, clare county council came up with a whole pile of crap ones this year(banning dogs during busy periods was a good idea though) surely they can tack on some other legislation regarding jet skis and boats with a certain hp.
areas in england have done it with pretty good results.
we should all complain and whinge more, that should get some results!
