reenroe co kerry

well lads fishing reenroe the week end think it will be strong wind and bad weather,looking for some info as i was never there what i will after and what bait is best?even pm me if ye like any help great full cheers barry

Hi Barry,
its a flat surf beach with the usual flounders and given the recent strong winds a good chance of Bass. Dogs and coalies after dark but given the heavy surf, dogs may be scarce. Like all flat beaches it can be great on occasion but equally terrible as well.
Bring fresh peeler if you can get them. After that lug, rag and fish bait.
Wind is due to blow hard from the south fri and sat which will put a big surf on it. However it is due to go North West on Sat night which should blow the crests off and calm it down a bit. I was down that way on Mon and Tue and there was a big surf running. There seems to be a few guys kite surfing it at the moment and given that it is a long weekend they may turn up. Surfers have always been a problem but these kite surfers run parallel to the beach at speed so there may be a conflict of interests.

no, I gave up competitions when they reduced the sizes from 300mm. I was thinking of trying out around Rineen. However forecast is not great with the winds going NE. If I'm not fishing I may take a walk around to see what is happening.

Won't be much of a surf there with those NE winds. We are fishing Reenroe from 2 - 7 on Saturday and the golf course beach from 2 - 6.30 on sunday.

Give it a couple of years and the size limits will be half that.

Well John how did you get on?
I took a walk around early Sat morning and to say it was flat calm was an understatement.

I'm not sure what happened in the competition the week before but some one lost an awful lot of gear. It was like a free tackle shop. I got over a dozen grip leads, beads, swivels, springs etc.
If I had a knife with me I would have got more. I couldn't break some of the traces and had to leave them. They were all stuck in big lumps of kelp.

Was extremly calm alright, even calmer on Sunday. It was a real struggle. First day saw about 6 flounder and 20 -25 dogs and second day saw about 10 flounder, 1 bass, 1 coalie and 40 dogs caught. We had a hours darkness both nights but still the doggies were not there in the numbers they are usually. No pattern to them either, they were been caught at all ranges.

Over all winner was Richie Gormley with 2 zone wins. I came in a tie for second with Eugene Farrelly and Phil Ord on 4 points.

well done, not a bad return given the conditions.
