try just of the pier head write below it for conger or of the back for conger if you are willing to lose a lot of tackel and use roten botems there use to be a lot of dogfise cast out seaward from the peir head haven't caght any the last few times i went out and from the pier head twords the rocks for flates a few but the are there pollock coal fish spining out along long the rocks to the west and flats form the beach galway side of spidal
spidal use to a great place to fish but these days its not so good
my best conger from the pier head was 16lbs but iv lost biger ones be prepared use a boat rod with 50lb line or a good solid hand line
any more questions about spidel pm me also tra mor is good for flates will show you in excange for lifts if your going from galway city
are the still poching at the river mouth cus when they were doing that you couldn't cath a thing

you can get big pollock off the end on a spring high, the fun begins when you use light tackle , i use a small spinning rod (even mackerel get a good fight ) and a 2/0 hook and a lunp of mackerel and let loose cast out about 10-15 yrds and let it slowly sink(no weight) and keep your finger on the line... i've caught loads of pollock all about 7lbs and you can get wrasse pouting and conger the same way...
