i am taking a hacksaw to my rod to remove the reducer and it's enforcement on the rod blank. when cut the rod will be 13 feet long. plan to fish low reel mount.
can anyone tell me why people bother with reducers when it is just as easy to cast with the reel mounted up to 12" from the end of the butt? they are a bloody nuiscance, just one more thing to drop on the rocks and the like. i just don't get it at all??

Hi,
I always thought reducers could be screwed off for casting with the reel low and the reducer was put back on to reel high to bring back in your gear. The idea being if you catch a big fish it's easier to fight it with the reel high. BTW casting with reducer on and with the left hand still on the reel can cause cracked ribs.

Some people think casting with the reel in the low position can increase distance due to the style of their casting. Have you ever tried this? You are the swinging lead man around here. Im still an off the ground man so I can not comment... :?

Casting reel low is supposed to allow the rod to be bent easier. All I can say is once you get used to it its a much more natural way to cast with a multiplier but I found it a nightmare with a FS.
