Braid - (again)

Is braid any good when put to use from the shore (bait or spin) or are its benefits only from the boat?

I use Braid all the time for spinning and plugging and I have to say it can't be beat. Especially if you are plugging. 30lb braid wil be about the same diameter at 10 - 12lb mono. See how many plugs you have left while bass fishing with 10lb mono if you are getting snagged up. The same no strech princeables apply. When you are fishing with braid you get great sensitivity which can be a little off putting at first but as soon as you get used to it you will never go back. I have heard some of the shore fishing guys mention that the briad is not very resistive to rubbing in the sand when used off the beach. I don't think that it eill be very long before some of the match men start to use the coated braid from the shore.

I using it all the time now for plugging and spinning - it does save you lures. The abrasion resistance is supposedly inferior to mono; I always use a 2-3' mono rubbing leader (20-30lb). Also it's much easier to pass mono through holes in drilled bulltes, rings of plugs etc and eisier to knot.

I don't bother with the rubbing mono and I can honestly say after using braid for 5 years now that I have never had a problem with it. Knots are one thing you have to be very careful with. I normally tie to one of the small berkley clip swivels so I am not tying knots each time I change the plug which can be very often in some venues especially if I know the Bass are there and I'm not catching. I normally use the Trilene knot which I think is also called the improved clinch knot. There are plenty of others to use just don't use the tucked blood knot as this slips under pressure with braid. You should check out the newer power pro braid. Really nice stuff. I use the older power pro. The same spool as I bought 5 years ago. It is nice and I have no complaints, but being the tackle tart that I am I think I'll be buying a new spool today.

Spinning and plugging is precisely what I'm interested in using braid for. Given the low diameter it should also provide extra casting distance with particular lures - I hope anyway. A 2oz dexter wedge isn't always the best with the East coast fish so being able to cast smaller lures will be an advantage.
