Anybody know where worm baits can be collected near Hook Head?

Lug Worm can be dug from the bottom of the cliffs below the fort in Duncannon. Also, ask at the Newsagents on the corner in Duncannon opposite the strand tavern, local chap digs both Lug and Rag and shop will supply his name no., lives locally - (Spoke to him last week and he was just out of hospital after op to treat a hernia!, shows the hard work involved. so he may not yet be back digging). Further afield there is a tackle shop in Waterford (don't remember the name), Murphys tackle in High Street Wexford and also a supplier in the high street in Kilmore Quay (Watch for the sign outside the driveway as you enter the village). Best of Luck, was down there last week and plenty of makerel, wrasse, dogfish - very few bass around though (failed to catch). Interestingly, the south side of the head was outfishing the Slade side, although I had heard that the Slade village side was supposedly the favoured side. May have been as a result of the south easterly blowing consistently for a few days

If you do go to the Lighthouse side, try the mark Numbered 80 - 81, plenty of makerel (evenings esp.) from right down the end of the rock slope (careful of the waves), cast straight out - left or right is rock/weed and will cost you tackle, further up loads of wrasse 1 or 2 to decent size (caught 16 with the kids in 2 & 1/2 hours, great fun) on rag worm.

Duncannon is excellent however the very southern end of the beach has the best lugworm beds alongside the cliffs and you can dig excellent black lugworm there at low water on the harder slightly higher sand banks (about an hour either side, two in the current conditions)... Hard work but worth it.
