Introduction
- Co. Limerick
Limerick on first
glance does not look a maritime county, but you have not counted on the Shannon Estuary. This is the largest river in the UK and
Ireland and its estuary is a maritime haven all in itself. It
even boasts its own resident pod of dolphins, of which there are only
three along the entire west coast of Ireland. What do you think
they live on! The Shannon has several deep water ports including
Foynes in Co. Limerick and truly exceptional sea fishing is available
along large parts of its coastline. A knowledgeable Limerick SAC
angler in 2002 put a specimen 30 lbs blonde ray back from a shore
mark... so imagine what's available from a boat!
