Righty ho, here we go.... Bear with me on this and I'll explain all as we go along.
Date: June 25th
Venue: Leenan beach, Co. Donegal. If numbers get huge we can always split it and use Dunree as a second venue, failing that, Ballyliffin/Culdaff are also in close enough proximity.
Time: fishing from 12-5pm
Base for the pre/post match festivities: Buncrana
Fish to be expected: At that time of year, Leenan should throw up good numbers of daylight fish including large numbers of Thornbacks, Flounder and Turbot with bonus plaice to be had also, Dunree has similar fishing albeit without the turbot. (The numbers of Ray to be had in the right conditions in the Swilly is one of its best kept secrets!)
Leenan beach is about 20-25 minutes outside Buncrana coming through the stunning Mamore Gap (views have to be seen to be believed and it has a “magic” stretch where cars appear to roll uphill) Buncrana should be easily reached from Dublin in 3 -3 and a half hours, 2 hours should bring you from Belfast. (I've done it in under 3 and that was before motorways etc
) SAI have stayed and fished in the area before and had a riotous good time on the razz in Buncrana.
I appreciate smoothie meets in Wexford would be great craic, however, the beaches can get much greater pressure tourist wise that the relatively quiet beaches up North, also the northern beaches will suit the daylight fishing, nightime drinking a sight better
. This is the resurrection of the original NvS idea and to bring it to Wexford wouldn’t really fit either TBH although there is nothing stopping us organising a massive site meet in that vicinity later on either. I’d love to see a mix of people from both sides of the border who may or may not have much of an interest in match angling to turn up, enjoy the craic and hopefully renew old friendships and kindle new ones. We haven’t had a large meet like this since with the emphasis on the social aspect so nows the chance to put faces to names. I will find out details of accommodation/camp sites etc over the next few weeks. The nightlife in Buncrana and the welcome we have received in the past has been fantastic. I grew up there so I suppose I may be a little biased but if you can dig out reports from SAI-SACs forays up there you’ll see what I mean!
We will come up with costs etc, this is not an IFSA comp, this is organised outside of the Federation and is not linked to SAI-SAC. This is a Sea-Angling-Ireland.org meet and we will make a donation to the RNLI from takings on the day. If anyone would like to sponsor the event or a prize or whatever, your help would be most appreciated and the more sponsorship received, the more cash left to go to the Lifeboat lads, I will be covering the event for Irish Angler magazine and will be sure to give credit where its due.
We probably, between the 2 beaches have room for about 50 anglers, it would be great if we could get that many. Primarily this will be a NvS challenge match with say the best 10 scores from each team to count for bragging rights, standard comp rules will apply. 18cm size limit, max 3 hooks etc, this will be 100% put to bed prior to kick off.
Any questions, queries, suggestions, add away. I’m going to get JD (howya John, if you wouldn’t mind…..) to split this from the original thread and keep that one for banter and this one for logistics and questions on any aspect. Hope to see a lot of you there…. This WILL be epic! Let the slagging commence….
All are welcome as stated, whether you ar an outright beginner or seasoned angler.
