clew bay mon 30th april

Postby jw » Fri Mar 30, 2007 10:59 am

I've spoken to Mary Gavin-Hughes of Clew bay angling.
http://www.clewbayangling.com/home.html
Her boat is free monday 30th april (unfortunately booked on the 28th/29th)

I appreciate weekdays may not be good for most people, but is anyone interested in a days boat angling in clew bay?

Hi

Maybe, might have two for you but will have to check with the social diary / job jar etc! What's the charge per head?

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

the boat is 420 for the day so if we had 5 lads that would be 84 each. I think jd might be able to make it?

if people are fairly definate they can make it I'll go ahead and confirm the booking

from

Clew Bay was the most famous Skate fishery in the UK and Ireland. It suffered a drastic decline due to commercial over-fishing and a failure to implement catch and release in past decades. Thankfully the Skate population has stabilised and may even be recovering albeit very slowly. In late 2002, Alan Yates caught a skate estimated at 200 lbs further south near Clifden on John Brittain's boat. The "sad news story" of the loss of Skate from Clew Bay has served to overshadow the remarkable fishing available in this unique ecosystem, as evidenced by these shore marks, some with their own pages... there are over forty species available and twenty in a day off a boat is definitely possible. Clew Bay is definitely a significant nursery area and we would ask all local and visiting anglers to practice catch and release in order to ensure the future of the fish stocks.

at the moment i've only maybes....nobody is definate

hi dave

at the moment jd and myself seem to be the only definates, so i was thinking it might not go ahead. With yourself that would be 420 divided by 3.

anybody else like to come along?

john

yep looks like its not going to happen...moral of the story - there's no point trying to organise a trip like this on a weekday as everyone will be working
