Introduction
- Co. Down, Northern Ireland
Co. Down is not just
famous for the Mountains of Mourne! Strangford Lough has been
the location for large Tope in Irish waters for the last decade and
regularly produces fish, just about every year, of the 60 lbs (25 kg)
mark. There are several boats for hire with very experienced
charter boat skippers aboard but we have had terrible problems in
trying to locate them. Either they are so busy they don't need
to advertise or they have not quite got the hang of the tourism
thing! Northern Ireland is largely undiscovered in terms of sea
angling, but bear in mind that a commercial trawler landed a conger
eel in excess of 250 lbs weight from off Rathlin Island on the Antrim
coast! The same safeguards should apply in terms of checking any
boat over...
One obvious
point. Bear in mind that you are entering the sterling zone and
as such your Euro will not go as far as you might think. You
need to budget for the exchange rate and it is better to bring
sterling with you.
