Wexford Waterford Cork Kerry

Introduction - Co. Cork - The Boats

Cork is the capital of sea fishing in Ireland.  It offers a vast coastline, and as we shall see a superb range of charter boats and shore marks.  Cork running from Youghal on the south coast to Baltimore and Union Hall on the west coast is surely a sea anglers heaven.  Throw in a superbly developed tourism infrastructure, an international airport, excellent bus and rail links and you have a mecca for any sea angler.  It also has a very long tradition in sea angling and boasts some of most recent records in Irish sea angling, including the new 29 lb record pollack taken off a wreck from a Courtmacsherry boat.  There is no point in describing the different type of fishing available because you can do everything in or off Cork - from the current record spurdog taken off a dinghy in Cork Harbour to the current record pollack, to the current Irish record Halibut.  Cork has it all...  The boats listed below start in Ballycotton at the eastern edge of Co. Cork and work their way around the coast towards the Kerry border at Kenmare.  The choice is yours... even Ballycotton has delivered an 8 lbs plaice, a 6 lb black sole (both from the pier!) and the record common skate of 221 lbs, albeit back in 1913.  The boats are listed running from the east (Ballycotton) towards Kerry. Big thanks to James Linehan for the recent update - Spring 2006.
