Beara Peninsula

#1 Post by Paul Harris »

Date. Feb 6th
Time 1400 - 1800
Tide low at 1700
Bait Sandell and macky
Persons fishing - just me

First session of the year and tried a new mark that I kept looking at last year but never got round to fishing. Good depth and fairly clean bottom with only three rigs lost and as I was fishing two rods thats not bad.
Had an LSD on first cast while I was still baiting up second rod and than as usual never had a touch for 2 hours. Was thinking about giving up when rod with sandeel on bent round and resulted in a surprise thornie about 6 pounds. Followed by a huss of similar weight on the macky and then another thornie on the sandeel.
Pinched myself to make sure I was not dreaming when a good huss near double figures appeared followed by two LSD's.
Had to stop at the pub for some anasthetic to get over the shock.
Sorry no pics but really did not even think about taKing it, sure to blank next session when I have it with me!!!
Live out on the beautiful Beara Peninsula. Always willing to assist visiting anglers.

thanks for the nice comments.
got to say the thornies were a big surprise to me this early in the year. Heard of a big catch of them in January a couple of years ago so perhaps its just luck to fall on a shoal of them, the next few weeks will tell.

I am planning a camping trip to the Beara last weekend in June and aim to call with you for some bait and hopefully a few tips

Well done Paul,

That the first thornback i heard of being caught this year, missed out on a trip back down there last summer but i will make up for it this year,

keep the reports coming in as they wet my appetite for the place... your so lucky to be surrounded by all the beautiful sights to be seen there,

I will never forget that fat huss i got there on christmas day :D
