Sean
McKay's boat is producing exceptional fishing out of Ballycastle - here
is Sam Oliver with a Common Skate estimated at around 80 kilos (200
lbs). Landed in 55 minutes off an Ugly stick it took a whole
rainbow trout on a 9/0. Expensive bait! Dec 2004.
|
A rare enough encounter, even in
Donegal. Here is the better 4 kilo (9lb) Torsk taken by David
Craigh from the Rosguill skippered by Michael McVeigh in June
2004. Mackerel fillets did the trick, fished over an offshore
wreck (name withheld). Loads of coalfish too.

This is Robert McClean, a member of the
Raheny & District SAC, reflecting on a fine 35 lb Tope taken off
Wicklow Head. It fell to a mackerel and squid cocktail. Nov
2004.

And
just to prove it was not a fluke, here's Robert again with a very large
Bull Huss, estimated to weight 7 kilos (16.5 lbs) taken off Loop Head in
Co Clare in June 2004. It feel to a fresh mackerel bait.

I'd
be shot if I didn't put this up... so here is Eamonn Coady from Tramore
playing Captain Ahab to the best cod (around 5lbs) from a session with
Dick Hayes out of Kilmore Quay near the Saltees. Three specimen
Ballen Wrasse also landed on the trip. Dec 04

Ballycastle
is certainly producing the big fish - another massive Skate for Sean
McKay's boat - this time a fish estimated at 206 lbs for Gavin
McCormick. The fish succumbed to a squid and mackerel bait and was
landed on a paired Penn rod and reel. Dec 04
