Sandycove, Cork

Hi all. New to the forum but have been reading through archived posts for a while. I’m fairly green so there might be some stupid questions in here.

I’m hoping to get some insight on bait fishing from shore in general but more specifically for Sandycove near Kinsale if anyone has any experience.
Some specific questions would be:
1. Would I be able to dig blow lug or bigger worms anywhere along the shore there or are there specific places to dig. There is sand, hard mud and soft mud in different places, where would be most likely to have big worms to dig.
2. Is it too early in the year to catch keeping sized flounder/flatties from shore on the south coast and if it is too early, how long should I wait, first frost, etc. I have caught flounder in late summer in previous years but haven’t had much luck in the last few.
3. Is fishing the hour or so around high tide always the best time to bait fish or are there exceptions.

From reading archived posts I’ve gathered that there’s good enough winter fishing off the rocks past sandycove but haven’t seen many posts from summertime. I would have mostly fished mackerel in the past but there aren’t many in around cork yet except for one spot I’ve tried that’s fairly hard to reach. Caught a 32cm mackerel there which has to be the biggest I’ve seen.

I’ve been using different shop bought rigs and some homemade so I don’t think that would be the reason I’ve blanked with bait.

Cheers in advance if anyone has any advice or insights.
