Re: I'm going to buy a boat, please advise

Yes, I'm going to leave this one, too much work for me anyway.

It is worth mentioning that although my original post said I don't need a cabin, I've changed my mind on that.
I think I'm probably leaning now to about 70% fishing, 30% recreation, visiting places along the coast and resting up a bit.
That's why this style of boat suited and I think it's the type I'm going to go for.
Still have 8k to spend max, so might be looking for too much.

Nicer version of it here in UK: https://fishingboats.apolloduck.ie/boat ... rel/634122

Anybody have any thoughts about what a Shetland Family Four might be like on the sea?
What kind of distance out would I get before it wasn't able for it?

Also looking at this, is it a nightmare to buy a boat without an engine and get one later?

You'd easily get a much nicer boat than that for 6k, I wouldn't pay more than 3k for that boat tbh

ok, thanks for the replies.

I have a little more to spend, about 8k, so if anybody has seen anything, let me know.
I am looking for a cabin cuddy though, so I might be asking a little much. Doesn't have to be huge, just 2 berths in case I want to stay over anywhere.

Called Poolbeg Marina about mooring, they have no spots and won't know if they do until late march.
Any other ideas? I like in the city centre.

Mourne boat sales seem to have a couple of motor boats just in that might suit you and your budget.

Actually this would suit:

As would this, however I'm not sure about an inboard engine.

They were a couple of the boats I saw and Im sure there would be still a bit of room for negotiation on them. Be mindful of the weight of these for towing as well as the overall condition of boat and engine.

I’m sure the owner will be delighted to see you. Inboard with stern drive brings considerable maintenance. The 3.0l Mercruiser will like petrol so a long spin will hurt a bit.

ok, that's doesnt sound positive. I assume you meant 'feel' like a petrol, what does that mean, rough/slow?
Apart from it not being an outboard, pretty much a perfect boat for me.

Is it a 3.0L diesel? If it is, it would be an interesting package, unusual but interesting!

It's a 3ltr merCruiser Alpha One

Just re-reading above.... when I ay it will "like" petrol - I think it will use a lot of petrol!

Yes, don't think it'll be cheap to run.

Bought it anyway, having spoken to a few boat owners as well as this forum.

Happy for now... but I know the story about the two days you're happy when owning a boat
