WD40 on bait?

Postby Tiny Fin » Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:49 pm

Hi all,

I have seen some reports in various places of anglers using WD40 on their bait, apparently to cover up the human smell.

I am curious to know if this is common in Ireland (specifically East coast) and if it makes any noticeable difference?

Please dont use this, you are polluting the water/environment with petroleum based chemicals

fresh bait the best attractant

Wd40 is used as a lub but its a water displace and degreaser. Think it has something to do with breaking down bait oils and mixing with wd itself helping sent trail. Myth is its made with fish oil. False, another it weakens mono false. Was artical years ago that females pheramones n whatever can attract fish so get the missus to rub yer line lol. Ide stick with quality fresh or frozen bait. Even them fish oils I don't use only in a ground bait chum mix
Keep her tight n bent over.

I worked on a charter boat for a few years,, had the same party of german anglers every year and they swore by it,, i never saw it doing much good to be honest..was just a placebo.. they did however have some stuff in a soap like pump bottle that was a specific fish attractant.. didnt seem to be anygood either.. as the lads above say..., good natural bait is the best..

Soak bait in sardine oil, freeze and lob bait in the water while frozen
This ensures that the oil actually reaches the seabed and provides a slow release.

But personally I rather save €12 on the oil and buy more bait.

Absolutely ridiculous assumption to make, doesn't help your fishing and will poison the sea even more!
