Fishing Rogerstown Estuary for Bass

Postby Gonzo » Fri Mar 20, 2020 4:57 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to find more information on Rogerstown Estuary Bass fishing. I have a good bit of information on the mark but I can't seem to find any info on where exactly to fish, do I setup at the mouth and cast out towards the sea or do I head inward near the pier? Do I cast out into the deepest part of the channel or what? If anyone can tell me anything about it I'd really appreciate it :)

Thanks
Gonzo

Dont fish it very often but lads generally get bass at the outside of it. Further up into the estuary has loads of sea trout and mullet

Ah cool I've been doing it right then :D I've been using pulley pennel rig with sandeel and mackerel, getting there for 2 hours before high tide with a bit of wind/surf, I've been 3 times since the start of March now but no joy so I think it may be a little early in the season lol

Probably a bit early yet! I'd try using peeler or rag instead of fish baits tho!

From around Easter onwards the bass show up around the estuary and local beaches.
The mouth of the estuary fishes best, spinning and plugs take the better fish.
The beaches either side produce aswell but it's more bait fishing than spinning, fresh rag or crab are favoured.

Well I guess I 'm to try everything down there this year then! Plan to buy 2 more rods so I'll have 2 beachcasters on the tripod with different baits then a nice light spinning rod for plugging/spinning :D I'll post to the forum if I catch anything!

sorry now this has nothing to do with the mark but did I read on here that the taking of bass is illegal?
