Each angler must have his/her card marked by the senior angler on his/her right. An angler at an end peg goes to the nearest peg
When the marker is signing your card at end of competition he must draw a line under the last fish, write in the number of fish caught and sign his/her name below that line.

If you are leaving the beach before lines up go to the angler whose card you are marking, sign off under his last fish including the current time
Biro must be used when filling out the card, felt tip pen or pencil is not accepted.
Maximum of 3 hooks allowed, a treble hook counts as 3 hooks.
On catching a fish the angler must place the fish in a bucket of fresh sea water until it is recorded. He may cast out again but cannot retrieve that trace until the catch is measured and recorded.

I fished it last night ( First ever comp ) and not a tug for me... I noticed the lads around me and a mate of mine aswell, they all using the 3 hook rig, as I haven't a clue what Im doing, I was using pulley Pennel rigs which I made and baited with Fresh mussel, fresh Peeler, and I also had made up a few sausages of Squid, mussel and crab, I was taken back by not even getting Crabs to bite my baits, I enjoyed the Fishing and it was a Buzz being amongst everyone on the Beach, the Lights could be seen up and down the beach, great to be alive..
Interested in hearing your thoughts with Rig choice for Comp's and just general beach Fishing, I use the Pulley Pennel mostly, and maybe that's why I aint catching??
Thanks for any Advise

Were people catching around you? Sounds like you had good bait. I nearly always use a pulley for cod. The amount of water in the river would put me off fishing Youghal at the moment. I was down twice this year not a tug apart from a dogfish in places id usually get fish and each day i was there baits cleaned by crab every cast. Now i didn't fish beach more into the estuary.

Plenty of blanks on the beach also a lot of angler gone before lines up.
Fresh water was not the problem as I had plenty of cod on Sunday at Ferrypoint and up the river.

I wouldn't worry too much about it I blanked too 1 bite for five hours of fishing. The bait came in so clean I could have sold it as freshly wrapped crab . It was so good that I used it Sunday morning in my first cast at Ferrypoint an had a cod on it. Faith restored in the quality of my bait and my ability to catch fish. Fishing the last 4 hours of a dropping tide on Youghal beach was never going to work.

What is the better tide for Youghal beach? Good to hear that your bait kept, I was so frustrated that I just left it to the fishes, but kept the untouched and will get out thursday I hope, after work

Sorry on the delay in the reply.
First hour or two of the flood should work as the fish start to go on the feed.
Because I have a preference to fishing Ferrypoint I do little fishing from the beach after the cod have move into the river. When I do go there it is normally towards the top of the tide. I like to have a bit of depth in the water in front of me. I prefer to fish the carpark that is nearer to the town. Up at the Claycastle end where you can start on the beach and as the tide pushes you off the beach go up onto the footpath.
Don't be afraid to fish an hour or two of the drop.
Remember to be polite to the walkers and keep your traces up on the wall away from hungry dogs. See a few fellows down there a few days ago and they had their gear all over the place.
