Havent Fished in 10 years.how to start again ?

Postby paulbl » Thu Oct 24, 2019 9:34 pm

Hey All,

Im sure like a lot of you life just seems to get more hectic the older you get. I used to do a lot of beach and boat fishing with my dad and brother until I was 25. I would really like to get involved again. I am based in Wicklow, would anyone know any clubs still going or perhaps any pointers to get started again, and where to get fresh bait and new gear?

Many thanks
Paul

Have a look here for Leinster clubs. It may be a bit out of date but it will get you started

A leg of the Leinster league is been fished this weekend. Take a trip down to it and have a stroll around.

It is never late to start again even at the end of year. Regarding the gear, I recently purchased a few bits from Glasgow Angling Centre, they have good bargains for some of the gear. Fishing on charter boats would definitely bring up to speed with casting, putting baits on hooks, etc... Good luck!

I've just moved home for abroad and left most of my kit as it was all boat gear. The easiest way for me to get back up and running was to buy a semi good spin set up (150 euro) and just start flicking lures around. Caught my first bass on day one and have been enjoying plenty of catches since. There's plenty of fish around the estuarys and the headlands around dublin/wicklow/wexford. Worth a look if you just want to get out there with minimal tackle.
