Thanks for the info DubPredator3 ill give the east pier a try soon. I took a short trip to Howth on monday night since I didn't have time to go to Dun Laoghaire and started at the small lighthouse on the little pier which sticks out at the end of the west pier. while i was feathering away on a second rod I heard the drag go on the conger rod but nothing was there when I picked it up. I eventually moved to the rocks in the corner near the end and within 10 minutes had a thump on the rod and the line went slack, picked up the rod and instantly felt another thump but nothing after. when i reeled the bait in the mackerel head looked chewed and one of the eyes was popping out so something had it. After that the crabs came on the feed which had me picking up the rod every 5 minutes due to the strong knocks they were giving on the rod so I packed up and called it a night. going to try Dun laoghaire next so hopefully I have more luck there and land my first conger.
