I'm just imagining the cloud of salt dust flying off the tripod! I have a soft spot for rudd myself, I grew up fishing for them in old flooded quarries where I lived; free lining and float fishing for them with bread stood me well when chasing mullet, I even have some in my aquarium at present. Tightlines for the winter and hope to see plenty more reports.

- the big eyes, the shorter lower jaw (a coley will have a slightly protruding lower jaw), the dark lateral line (coley has a white lateral line), the long narrow white pelvic fin, the copper back (as opposed to grey are dark grey on a coley). can only imagine the little rows of deadly sharp teeth in the mouth. the overall shape of the fish, a whiting for sure!
would hazard a guess at that being a tub gurnard what with the wide (collapsed long) pectoral fin that has a hint of blue at the tip of..? not sure though
now, the question is: is that a dogfish or a huss? lol
regardless, great report lucky. a fine ray.
welcome 'back'.
yip, looking forward to more reports

Thanks Charlie, tis a LSD doggie alright the photo don't show the dots between the mouth and the nose so well and the few bull huss I caught had smoother skin that a dogs.the whiting/coalie mistake is a common mistake I make if I'm being honest,I keep mixing up the lateral lines, curved up for whiting and straight for coalies, haha or is it the other way around haha only messin, but I did think that coalies had a protruding upper jaw for some reason...cheers for putting me straight lads.wasnt too sure about the gurnard I must admit...cheers for the heads up.

fair play on chuckaroo on specifics i was on the mobile phone trying to see a clear picture.
if it was a blonde ray id be harrassing you . its my aim to catch one from the shore next summer. i have plotted a map of when and where to try for them as far as i know not many people have caught or fish for blondes from the shore.
you fish the same areas as me so i might see you out some weekend.
