Red Bay, Co.Antrim

Sun Oct 16, 2016 3:27 pm

Have done very little seashore fishing this year for one reason or another - think my last report was back in January - but decided last night to have a 2hour session on my local pier.
Pretty underwhelming results, this mark rarely throws up anything of any size. Plenty of bites but I only managed 2 fish - a small cod and a small doggie.
Was a nice evening all the same, nice to be out. A very large tide came over the top of the pier and indicated a good time to head home..

Good to see a report from up your way, it must be about 15 years since I fished Red Bay. Are your results typical of what is to be expected these days?

Typical results Paddy. Red Bay used to offer fantastic fishing from shore and boat but like everywhere else, it is boll0xed! due to over-fishing.
Large plaice (3 - 4lb), cod (7 - 8lb) and a lot of other species were common from the shore 30+ years ago but nowadays you could fish all year and struggle to get a fish for the pan, from the shore.
The shore in the bay does offer a lot of species though, as long as you aren't expecting anything big then it can be an enjoyable and an accessible place to fish. Occasionally would throw up the odd bigger pollack, huss, the odd ray, and conger
Get yourself up sure some day an we'll have a session from the shore..
