12-20 lb boat rod- sub €80

Postby shortcircuit » Sat Sep 03, 2016 6:15 pm

Hi folks

Am in the market for a new boat rod and might go for a brand new one if the price is good. I currently have a pretty cheap 20-30 lb rod which hauls fish up grand OK but has poor bite detection and does not offer much sport.

I think something in the 12-20lb range would suit best for what I will be doing most- working lures on a flying collar in deep water, and general fishing in Cork harbour - rays etc.

I know I may need to step up to 30lb class if I go after bigger conger-I can use my current rod for that.

I don't go boat fishing enough to justify spending huge money-maybe 5-6 times a year.

That in mind, can anyone recommend a decent rod for 80 quid or under. I would be thinking the Ugly Stik GX2 might be a contender.

Any other ideas folks?

I own the whole range of ugly stick gx2

Cannot fault them...

Great action, good bite detection and tonnes of power.
Target for 2017: Tope, Bass, Specimen shore pollack, Specimen Sea trout, Turbot over 30cm, common skate

Another vote for the Ugly Stick. I use the 20lb class for sharking and it handles very nicely.
