Opening Day - In hope of a bass!

Postby JimC » Sun Jun 16, 2013 10:06 pm

My bass fishing up to May 15th has been the worst on record. Very difficult conditions and cold water temperature are not the best for any angler and even less so for the boat angler.
I really was not too sure I'd take a run this morning until I had a peak out the window and checked the current windspeed and direction. The advancing rain and wind was still a way off in the early morning so it was a fairly simple matter of hitching up the Rubber Duck and loading up the rods.

Lovely conditions for the most part and lovely fishing! Had a good few fish. All caught vertically using my latest acquisition - An Abu Rocksweeper Nano 702ML - Must say this is a bit of a wand is this one! I was not casting today. The Rocky was easy to fish with. The reel seat to butt end is shorter than I am used to but I think I will settle with it. Of course as a consequence the rod is "longer" than say my Element Rider.

Anyways... While my expectations were not high I ended up having a nice session and some nice fish to the net. Illex Nitro Spring - Hart Absolut Worm and a BKD did the damage - not a Black Minnow in sight

And we're off......

Heh Heh! :D :D
I had a bit of misfortune earlier this year with rods stolen from my car. I am trying to build my rods back up. I usually have three or four lure rods of varying types on the go - They range from very inexpensive (Surecatch Salty Spin) to fairly expensive (Illex Element Rider S210MH) - I tend to stay clear of the ultra expensive rods as they are hard to justify. Luckily I have gotten a few rods from Irish Angler Magazine to help replace those stolen.
Once I like a rod I use it all the time. I like to think that I can recommend rods that I have been using and also across a range of pricing. At the end of the day if a guy is getting into lure fishing he is not going to spend a small fortune however once a guy finds that he likes the buzz most will invest in a decent mid-price rod to compliment the Surecatch!

Some nice fish there Jim, Cant wait to get back down there to have a bash at them

Sad to hear you not only had your boat nicked but you've also been had for your rods, went into Johnny Docs tackle shop and seen he still had the wanted poster of your boat that went missing, I told him he could take it down as you had said its most likely in Europe but he said its opened a few customers eyes as to what's going on out there and hopes it might save them from having the same thing happen to them,

Where's the action cam gone dude I miss being able to figure out where you're getting your fish from :)

Well if guys are more wide to what's going on that's a good thing! There was two engines stolen from car park of the Marlog last week

The cam is still around. The first few trips are "me" trips....will be back on the cam soon!
