Hi folks
Hoping to try my hand at salt water fly fishing for sea trout in an estuary in the north west
have a ten foot 8/9 rod and an old battered reel - should i be using floating or sinking line?
Pretty much a total novice when it comes to fishing on the fly
any advice much appreciated

J
Start with the floater - a nine foot mono leader (tapered if possible - 6'-0" of say 35lbs - 2'-0" of 25lbs - 1'-0" of 15lbs) then add tippet 0'- 9 of 8 lbs or similar- if you have any rainbow minky flies tan or grey or some of the traditional freshwater patterns (sunken lure, alexandra, etc) they also work in the sea

When flyfishing for Pollock does the water clarity affect things?

Yes ,a fly will never move as well as a lure so good water clarity is important
