I know, that they have different species of salmon, that behave different than ones here
But a question - is it legal, to target salmon with a rod in irish coastal waters and estuaries? Either with trolling or fly fishing?

Had me confused you need a salmon licence for sea trout. Think they call it a salmon/sea trout licence
