Re: Saltwater Fly Pattern Database

I note someone said a good thing to note is the hook size. I have caught pollack and especially coaley on numerous hook sizes and numerous patterns. I am very much a beginner at saltwater fly fishing but it seems to be if you can get it down over wreck fast enough to make sure the line isn't carried away by the current you will hit fish. I have had quite a few doulbe hook ups on a fly my friend tied for sea trout, cats whiskers and flies similar to a caoley dog. I think more or less anything works, fly can definitely outfish the spinner at times

Any body ever tried a Gummy Minnow ?
Very popular for bone fish and tarpon but look the spit of a sandeel.
Bought a load of them to go to Venezuela and have plenty left , got to try and use them for something.

Hi everyone. I noticed that this 'database' has been inactive for some time now.
As a result, due to the inactivity, it had become locked but one of the mods has kindly unlocked it again
I have been tying a few SW flies over the past while now and am going to post a few pics of some here i.e. add them to the database, id be keen to see other people's efforts and get their general opinions on patterns etc. Hopefully we can get some more chat generated.. :)
the flies i have tied are to target several different species, but particularly sea trout, flatties, wrasse, pollack and coley.
pics below. comments, pics, and other ideas welcome...

btw, i was reading comments made earlier in this thread that mentioned the 'Petitjean magic head'..
but i couldnt find any definite info on where exactly i could source these magic heads :?: i was wondering whether any body on here could direct me plse! they look awesome, i want some
i went onto the official Petitjean website to price buying some of these heads but found them pretty pricey tbh - over £1 each to include postage. So, is there anywhere where i can source less expensive, but equally as good, magic heads..??
thanks

until now hurler ive kept my stuff in chinese carry out plastic containers.. was a pain
but on a recent visit to the local angling shop the guy that runs the place found this box in the corner of his store. it had been lying there for years and he sold it to me for £20 :D well chuffed with it, its a great job 8)
the rule is that once its filled (already nearly is) with materials i wont be buyin any more!.... or i'll end up with far too much stuff

failing that, ive seen a lot of people using tool boxes of various sizes to store their kits

Hi chuckaroo , I don't do much fly fishing but looking at your flys and the detail on them ,I must say that's impressive , and the shrimp flys look like the real thing. .Best of luck with them.

Nice goin charlie, tied up a few myself, diawl bach for mullet and trout and a shrimp. I'll get a few photos up and maybe tie up some more in a while. I've a few wiggle fins that look to be the same job as the petitjeans. Although they are more suited to trolling for pike with the fly rod. Casting with the wiggle fins on is pretty difficult due to the air resistance. The wiggle fins give more movement to soft plastic worms on a jighead.
