clare dragoon, carrigaholt, 26/5/11

Fri May 27, 2011 9:10 am

People: romofa, jw and 3 german tourists

Duration: 0900-1700

Tide: neap

Weather: N/W force 9

Bait: limpets, frozen mackerel

Rigs: coarse fishing techniques i learnt from competition anglers

Results: gurnard, rockling a few dogs and a specimen sea rod :-)

Report: we actually got to within a mile of loop head, the 7 meter
swell was breaking dangerously over the reef just south of loop head
known as the List, all the leaves are pulled off the kelp plants and the
stems pulled off the rocks.

it was too rough to anchor in college strand, or in shelter at Scattery or Hog
islands, we finally held with two heavy anchors up at killimer ferry

Nice to put the big charter boat through her paces, spectacular scenery, too
unsettled for serious fishing, On the two settled days in May the mackerel and pollack
we solid near horse island, the weather stops them feeding or causes them to
move away for some reason
