Do I have to cast realy far away?

I was on Canary Islands and swiming around saw fish just in 1m of water swiming further I saw no fish?
In Ireland I canot realy say, have you ever swim and saw fish just in 1 m?
Does it mean that I should cast jsut 40 m on the beach?

there are so many factors influencing where fish are on a beach, you could write a book on it, indeed some anglers have..

every beach is different and none will ever consistently fish the same in any particular hour or tide, never mind day, week, month nor season

at midday fish may be found 20 meters from the shore and an hour later require 150 meters of casting to make contact

and yet 100 yards up the shingle, it could be the reverse

using two rods fishing at different distances is a pretty good way to start anyway

the rest i'm afraid, is down to flying time

as scannerman said, they vary in distance,

beach fishing can hold many different species all ranging from only a few feet out to a hundred yards or so, fish like flat fish can be found surprisingly close on a beach, especially if there is a little surf running, after the third breaker you will find a good variety of fish feeding in these areas like bass, coalfish, codling etc etc and then beyond that the larger fish like ray, dogs, and pretty much everything else in that area..

as mentioned if fishing with two rods, cast one out at distance and one in close, i have won a few competitions with only casting around 10 yards, so it just goes to show.. a long cast is not always needed, but does come in handy at times

or completely out of your range bit of a C22, normally diving birds or other wildlife (not the one you're thinking of ) could give you an indication, or just ask someone local, provided they are you not leading on, but hey, what would life be without risks?

sometimes it really helps if you talk to the fish ,concentrate on your rod tip and the line and say things like "come on little fishy you know it smells good eat that bait" or sometimes just concentrate on the tip willing it to slam down and pulling the rod out of the tripod, if all else fails just take your medication as prescribed
