Improvised Flies

Sun Jun 13, 2010 10:32 pm

Posting this with great anticipation. Took a couple of Macky feathers, and added a few bits and pieces to them. We are off to the Causeway Coast tomorrow, in search of anything that will take our bait, but the fly rod is coming, and I hope to hook up my first Pollack on the fly. Watch out for the report.

Have a look, and see what you think. They should ring all the right bells with the Pollack if they are about!!!!! (He says holding his breath, crossing fingers, and shouting loudly within his inner mind, ' Please God')

Should take pollock on them. Hook sizes might be a wee bit small but hopefully you will get some results.

When trying again, try to come up with a couple of lighter patterns as well, just to cover all bases.

Tight Lines,

I found the black and orange colour can be very good for the pollack. Like MAC said some lighter colours would go down well. blue's and green's etc.

Quick update. Flies worked a treat. Although there weren.t too many fish about I had a couple of takes. Not particularly big fish but they certainly put up a scrap. Mission accomplished. Saltwater fly cherry popped. Will certainly try the variations you have suggested

Excellent news... Glad it worked out for you. The fish will get better as the season progresses.

Over a couple of trips in the last few weeks for pollock I found brown and white with gold flash (clousers) outfished other colours. I was guessing they were taking them for junvenile pollock.
