pollock on fly

Postby poacher » Mon Jun 13, 2005 1:44 pm

hi
trolling with flyrod over shallow inshore reefs with small black flys 1 or 2 inches long around dusk
2 recent 1 hour trips produced 100LBS. pollock up 2 10LBS
within 100 meters of ballacourty lighthouse [waterford]
good way to catch on fly without to much casting
let out 30 meters f.line trool at walking pace

I'm sure the pollock were great craic on the fly rod, but is there any other reason you trolled with the flies? I suppose a fly rod is as good as any for trooling but it's not really fly fishing.

I agree. Probably not the safest bet. Nice to see them hit the gly on the surface for sure. I wasn't being dismissive of your catch just wondering why you weren't spinning outright. We'll done on a very nice catch. I'd say you had quite a bit of fun with those big ones on the fly rod.
