Cahore 28/29 May

Complete blow out on Saturday. Sunday saw a hard fishing day yielding few high ranking fish. The buoys to the South of Cahore saw very few fish and most boats lifted anchor and sought other areas. Some good tope fell to mackerel baits tipped with squid. Thornbacks to squid and the odd huss to mackerel. Smoothhound were very scarce, and were caught from only isloated areas mainly around Rooneys Point. Dab were caught on either rag or mackerel and approx 1/5 were long enough to score. Plenty of dogs but not vast numbers..Fresh and or frozen peeler was a dead loss unless you found the spots. A tough weekend but nevertheless, always a pleasure to fish this area.

We moved from the buoys as there was nothing doing there at all. we went in towards the direction of the harbour about 500mtrs in from the first buoy. I took two there of about 20lb ea. 4 in all were caught on our boat. Also took a thornback, huss and one smoothie, plenty of dogs too. We moved several times before finding this spot. It was significantly deeper than the other areas at about 80ft.

Tope were also taken around Rooneys Point which generally fished better on the day
