This may be a play on words :( , so there are plenty of venues in Youghal where you can catch fish  :D :D

it makes it fair. i mean, I'm on the west coast and crab is almost impossible to get or i have to order it from someone on the east coast and pay a fortune for it.

now if we fish a venue where crab is important and i cant get crab, then any angler on the beach who has crab even if they aren't better than me will almost certainly catch more fish.

if crab is banned however, then anglers have to use more skill to catch fish without using crab.

Quite simple Tom not every angler has easy and cheap access to it. What I can gather it was Munster, where crab are available all year round, proposed to have it banned also banned are white's which are hard to come by in Munster. Unless I let people know where I dig mine

The people who look after the youths and juniors have a common intrest where they want a fair playing field for all.

Plenty of venues where you can catch fish.

They do tend to leave to procreate.

So Youghal does not produce fish.

(note to self, must make word play more cryptic!)

Donal,

Since when was match fishing easy or cheap.

It doesn't matter who first banned it, match fishing is about more than water craft with rod and reel, bait selection, quality and presentation are just as important (are you listening Alex) you are not making a level playing field by banning a bait, you are adding more of the luck element. Anglers who don't make the pre'match effort always seem to think the advantage was gained on the day, the advantage was gained by the effort to get the bait long before the match began.

In my time I've seen them ban pendulum casting, species, bait, hook sizes......all to suit the participants who didn't want to put in the efforts of a true alround matchman.

From Tom Maher's comment it may have been better to ban the venue than the bait, venues should be about catching fish, not finding excuses why anglers blank.....sounds like a doomed match before it starts

Tom.

From the comments i made you could make the following assumptions-
1- That the crab ban wont make a difference.
2- There will be fish caught.
The reason i make these assumptions
1- We have a competition here nearly every January. If the cod are in we catch them in decent size and numbers. If the coalies are in we catch them in numbers. Last January the competition was won by a new comer to competition angling - 10 fish ( cod, coalies and a bass ) ALL ON LUG. ( he also won the pool for the longest fish. )
2- If anyone has been fishing Youghal over the last 3 weeks they will tell you that the place is alive with coalies. Cork s.a.c. and Great Island s.a.c. will tell you that Youghal beach is fishing well at the moment with coalies and dogs as well as a couple of small ray.
My posts would also draw the conclusion not to expect too many flounders.

It's the area across the estuary from the hotel

The under 16's will fish the stoney beach by the cottage and the under 21's will fish the back beach where the moorings are
