Donal,
Since when was match fishing easy or cheap.
It doesn't matter who first banned it, match fishing is about more than water craft with rod and reel, bait selection, quality and presentation are just as important (are you listening Alex) you are not making a level playing field by banning a bait, you are adding more of the luck element. Anglers who don't make the pre'match effort always seem to think the advantage was gained on the day, the advantage was gained by the effort to get the bait long before the match began.
In my time I've seen them ban pendulum casting, species, bait, hook sizes......all to suit the participants who didn't want to put in the efforts of a true alround matchman.
From Tom Maher's comment it may have been better to ban the venue than the bait, venues should be about catching fish, not finding excuses why anglers blank.....sounds like a doomed match before it starts
Tom.
