An insane loop hole in Irish law!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fri Dec 08, 2006 11:46 pm

Ive not seen it discussed on this forum but if I lived on your side of the Irish Channel this would drive me ffkn nuts.

If an illeagal netsman is proscecuted he can not be proscecuted again that year,so in other words .

Call the authorities tell them theres a guy netting down the road , get in your boat and wait to be arrested. Pay the 4000 euro fine and then fish for the rest of the year unhindered by the authorites.

Its a classic!

The script writters for Father ted could not have come up with that one!

Yes, I'll bet you too have read BASS 119.

And yes, on closer inspection, the Bass legislation here is a shambles, never mind the enforcement or lack of. You're right, you wouldn't get it on Craggy Island.

However, there are a few of us with a few ideas on getting things sorted.

Some day....

Yes 119 reminded me , although I had heard stories about this law from Cork .

You guys have a resource worth protecting before it ends up in the same state as ours.

Awareness group

The Irish Bass Protection and Awareness Group (IBPAG) is a small number of people concerned about Bass preservation in this country.

Although new and still evolving this group intends to investigate and pursue such issues and others during 2007 and into the future. The next meeting of the group will be during January 2007 - we will have a very busy agenda.

Representatives of the group will also be at the SEAi stand during the Dublin Angling Show.
