Haven't heard much about it. Any details or a web link?

To be honest, it's very poorly marketed. There are some top anglers fish it every year. I haven't fished it yet even though it's my stomping ground!! Get this month's Irish Angler. There's a phone number in it to ring for details. The Lough's Agency is organising it, but I couldn't find anything on their website.

At last some info, cheers Mick.

I plan to be there swiffing away. had my 1st trip there with the flyrod the other week and liked what I saw, caught a load of mackerel on surface poppers too :D . Do you know is there any campsites in the area, then I can stay the weekend?

Good stuff! The Mackerel can actually be a nuisance sometimes! Not giving the bass a chance!

I'm local enough, so not too sure about the campsites. I think there may be one in Omeath about 3-4 miles up the road further into the lough.

I'm hoping to get down there at some point that weekend.

I've fished it once this year (too early in season really).

If nothing else it'll be a chance to pick up a few pointers.

I might have a chance to try it next week.

how did this go ?

I think there were four bass caught with the biggest at 4 1/2lb, didn't here who won it. They had a good turnout with between 70 and 80 anglers fishing.

Hello there,

It was a good enough event, although there was a strong enough northerly blowing which made the fluff chucking hard work! The mackerel were also conspicuous by their absence! I suspect this may also be because of the northerly winds. I fish this area a lot and I find late evening and early morning to be best. I also prefer the last hour of the ebb and the first two hours of the flood. I've also done really well on the bass when the mackerel are hitting the sprat shoals just off shore. I'd love if this event was fished over evening tides next year! Say 6-10 on a Friday night and and the same on the Saturday followed by a knees up in one of Carlingford's excellent pubs!

Also, I think there was only around 20 anglers competing. There definitely wasn't 70!!

Hi,

I fished the event on the Saturday at B***** Point.

One guy had 3 Bass up to 4 1/2 lbs on spinners.

Another guy (Tom) had one bass on the fly (a big olive and sparkle Clouser)

All the fish came within 45 minutes of each other, just before high tide.

There were 12 guys fishing within 100 yards of each other but no-one (myself included) had a pull.

I was back again on Tuesday afternoon, fishing in the same area. I didn't have a pull but I nearly fell over from shock when a big (Very big) bass jumped about 6' in front of me among the weed. At first I thought it was a seal.

I ended up with one mackeral from Greenore. The Feather boys had a few as well.
